Job summary

J.Crew Group is seeking a Senior Technical Designer to lead the technical development of Women’s Knits/Sweaters from concept through bulk production. You will set fit, construction, and quality standards across the category and partner with Design, Production, and Merchandising to translate design intent into manufacturable solutions.

You will lead live-model fittings, maintain technical packages, and drive improvements to reduce iterations and cycle time.

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical development for a major category independently.
• Advanced proficiency in design and development tools (Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel).
• Expert understanding of yarns, gauges, stitch formations, knit construction.
• Proven ability to manage full seasonal calendars across styles/categories.
• Advanced garment construction, patternmaking, grading, draping, technical sketching.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and development process for Women’s Knits/Sweaters from concept to bulk production.
• Translate design intent into technically sound, cost-effective solutions.
• Lead fit sessions on live models; diagnose and fix fit/construction issues.
• Maintain technical packages and construction standards; drive process improvements.
• Oversee sample tracking, fittings, and approvals across seasonal calendar.
• Lead factory relationships; provide feedback and coach vendors on capability building.
• Mentor junior technical designers in construction, grading, and fit evaluation.
• Collaborate with Production/Sourcing on vendor onboarding and capability assessment.
• Maintain and update technical records and best-practice documentation.
