Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Designer to develop, coordinate, and execute engineering design deliverables for utility and industrial facility projects. The role focuses on CAD/Drafting, 3D modeling, and design packages while aligning with quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

Associate degree in AAS in drafting/CAD or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology and 4 years of equivalent experience.
Equivalent experience without AAS degree: High school diploma and 8 years in electric utility/industrial drafting or CAD work.

Responsibilities

Develop, revise, and maintain engineering drawings, sketches, 3D models, and design packages for capital and maintenance projects.
Prepare study layouts, design concepts, and construction packages per company standards.
Utilize CAD and 3D modeling software to develop and maintain detailed designs and records.
Incorporate field information, site walkdowns, vendor data, and direction into deliverables.
Review vendor drawings and documentation to support project execution.
Perform QA/QC reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Coordinate design activities with engineers, managers, contractors, and operations.
Prepare bills of material, equipment lists, and cost estimates as needed.
Support document control and project closeout deliverables.
