Our client, a growing menswear import apparel company known for their denim, tops, and jackets, is seeking a New York-based Senior Designer to drive their lines from market research to finished product. Must be adept with competitive shopping, market research, meeting with clients/stores, and working directly with their offices in India, China, Bangladesh and Pakistan to deliver collections on time. This is an in-office environment, 5 days in their NYC showroom.
The salary range for this role is approximately $125,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Own range planning across denim, tops, and jackets (men & boys) and open to expand their smaller women’s dress business.
- Visit stores weekly to track product, pricing and trends and spot white-space opportunities.
- Join every customer meeting, capture requirements, and circulate clear minutes and action points.
- Translate customer briefs into precise direction for their overseas offices in India, China, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
- Work daily with the Asia teams over Zoom to develop product exactly to brief.
- Present collections to buyers in a way that drives orders.
- Follow the design calendar strictly so collections are ready on time for buyer meetings.
- Track approval samples after orders are placed and approve promptly so production stays on schedule.
- Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Demonstrate experience hiring, managing, and growing a team as you will expected to expand your team as business expands.
Qualifications
- A driven, entrepreneurial self-starter who takes ownership and moves fast.
- Adept in menswear design. A plus if you have also done some womenswear.
- Commercially minded with a sharp eye for trend, product, and price.
- A confident presenter who can sell a collection to buyers.
- Highly organized and calendar-driven; delivers on time.
- Proficient with AI design tools and quick to use them to work faster and smarter.
- Comfortable managing remote teams across time zones, with frequent travel and early/late Asia calls.
- Degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
- Several years of apparel design experience with range-planning ownership; menswear experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and in AI design tools; familiarity with tech packs and PLM.
- Strong understanding of the US retail market and pricing.
- Authorized to work in the US and based in New York City.
- Portfolio required.
