Job summary

IonQ in Bothell, WA is seeking a Design Quality Engineer to join the Manufacturing & Operations team. You will lead the design quality discipline, embed DFMEA and DVP&R into NPI, and partner with engineering and operations to ease build, validation, and scale.

You will review GD&T per ASME Y14.5, drive standards adoption, support PPAP and first article inspections, and mentor engineers in quality methods while pursuing continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in mechanical/design/related engineering fields.
• 5+ years of quality/design/reliability engineering in precision hardware.
• Experience facilitating DFMEAs and leading root-cause investigations to closure.
• GD&T proficiency per ASME Y14.5; tolerance stack-up analysis; ability to redline drawings.
• Experience developing/reviewing DVP&R plans.
• Knowledge of design controls QMS (e.g., ISO 9001) in fast-moving hardware.
• Proven track record driving cross-functional standards adoption.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Own DFM/DFA reviews across full system to identify cross-cutting design quality risks.
• Drive adoption of design standards (GD&T, fastener standards, component libraries).
• Lead standardization initiatives in collaboration with CAD/Engineering Operations.
• Introduce structured quality planning into NPI programs (DFMEA, DVP&R, key characteristics).
• Review and mature DVP&R plans in line with build cycles; ensure V&V plans precede builds.
