Job summary

Austin Commercial in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead and coordinate design efforts on a multi‑billion dollar semiconductor project. You will manage design services, budgets, and deliverables, collaborating with builders and designers to meet schedules and codes.

The role requires 10–15 years of commercial design/construction experience and a degree in architecture or engineering; DBIA knowledge is encouraged. This is an employee‑owned company with strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 10–15 years of diverse commercial design and construction program experience.
• Bachelors or Masters degree in architecture or an engineering discipline preferred.
• Understanding of traditional and alternative delivery methods.
• Ability to define and communicate deliverable requirements per contracts and codes.
• Experience with design firm operations and production processes.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement in design management processes.
• Experience with pre-construction and construction processes.
• Familiarity with BIM platforms, processes, and team needs.
• Knowledge of building codes, ADA, and entitlement processes; LEED a plus.
• Strong client-facing experience and timely decision-making.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam, Excel, and Microsoft Office.
• DBIA principles familiarity; DBIA accreditation encouraged.
• Authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship not provided.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day management of the design services.
• Administer designer’s agreement including review of invoices and CO negotiations.
• Manage design budget and any required change orders.
• Ensure design packages meet trade bid requirements and schedule.
• Oversee milestones and design submissions per contract and standards.
• Collaborate with Builder and Designer to minimize RFIs and change orders.
• Drive timely responses to Owner design review comments.
• Review constructability issues from Build team reviews.
• Support PM and Field teams on schedules, compliance, and cost impacts.
• Facilitate submittal and RFI reviews.
• Establish WBS with potential design/bid scoping scenarios and timelines.
• Identify cost/quality/constructability optimized solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to address challenges and goals.
• Oversee deliverables to ensure contract compliance and integration with construction.
• Other related duties as assigned.
