Director - Supporting Global Infrastructure with Executive Talent
Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Construction Vice President, the Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the design phase of renewable energy projects. This includes ensuring that designs align with regulatory standards, project requirements, client expectations, and internal constructability guidelines to deliver high-quality projects. This role demands a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and leadership to guide multidisciplinary teams throughout the design process. Additionally, the Design Manager will work closely with estimation and pre-construction teams to support equipment procurement and establish agreements with key electrical subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination and Planning:
- Develop and oversee schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for the design phase.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including clients, Engineers of Record (EoR), estimating teams, preconstruction units, and electrical project managers, to ensure alignment with project goals.
- Facilitate regular design review meetings to monitor progress and address challenges.
Design Oversight:
- Manage the process of engaging and fulfilling contractual obligations for selecting the EoR while mitigating risks for the client and stakeholders.
- Oversee the development of detailed project-specific designs, specifications, and drawings aligned with client and internal standards.
- Verify compliance of designs with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Review and approve design documents to ensure they are complete and accurate.
- Act as the primary liaison for client feedback on engineering products, ensuring alignment with schedules and expectations.
- Coordinate consultants’ deliverables (e.g., drawings, studies, calculation notes) and assess constructability at the Point of Interconnect.
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and consultants.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and solution-focused team environment.
- Provide technical support and guidance to team members.
Quality Assurance:
- Implement and adhere to quality control procedures to maintain high design standards.
- Conduct design audits and peer reviews to address potential risks.
- Ensure all deliverables meet client expectations and project specifications.
Client and Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the design phase.
- Prepare and deliver reports and updates to clients and senior management.
- Address and incorporate client feedback into the design process effectively.
Risk and Compliance Management:
- Identify potential design risks and create mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all design activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems, or related field (preferred).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred.
- At least 7 years of experience managing design or construction in renewable energy projects.
- Solid understanding of renewable energy systems and technologies.
- Proven expertise in project management and team leadership.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively within remote teams and collaborate across locations.
- Availability for occasional travel within the U.S. and Canada.
- Proficiency with design software (e.g., PV Syst, AutoCAD, Revit) and project management tools (e.g., MS Project).

- Primarily remote or office-based, requiring operation of standard office equipment (e.g., computer, keyboard, printer).
- Ability to remain seated for extended periods (approximately 80% of the time).
