Job summary

Cumming Group seeks a Senior Design Manager for educational facility projects in downtown Los Angeles. You will lead seismic and retrofit initiatives, directing design teams and coordinating with architects, consultants, and LAUSD personnel to meet schedule and budget targets.

Ideal candidates hold advanced degrees in architecture or engineering, with CA registration or PE preferred, and at least 14 years of relevant experience, including educational facilities or comparable public agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering.
• Master's degree in architecture or engineering.
• 14+ years of full-time professional experience in facilities design or capital project coordination.
• 4+ years in design/planning/construction of educational facilities or similar public agencies.
• Registration as Architect (CA) or PE preferred; license required in some cases.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple projects focusing on seismic, critical repair, and retrofit work.
• Supervise a team through the design review process.
• Coordinate A&E design process to meet program, budget, environmental, and legal requirements.
• Oversee design compliance with district standards and building codes.
• Identify and select architectural firms based on qualifications and performance.
• Provide architects with clear direction on goals, standards, budgets, and schedules.

The position will be located in downtown Los Angeles, CA and will be supporting K-12 educational facility projects at one of the largest public school districts in the country, the Los Angeles Unified School District.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Manages multiple projects with particular emphasis on seismic, critical repair and retrofit projectsManages and supervises a team of design professionals and other professionals through the design review processManages, develops, and coordinates the District’s design process for the A&E services to ensure that design plans are within functional program, budgetary, environmental and legal requirementsManages multiple projects, including engineering repair and critical repair, through interaction with Architects, consultants, and District personnel to ensure timely completion of these projectsOversees the building design process to ensure compliance with standards and guidelines for the District by working with design professionals and administrators to ensure that new and modernized structures meet both educational and building standards requirementsEstablishes and follows a process to identify and select the architectural firm best suited for each project based on the firms’ qualifications and ability to meet performance standardsProvides Architects with clear and consistent direction with regard to goals and objectives, standards, sites, schedules, and budgets for each projectEstablishes and follows an effective and efficient design review process to ensure that the design meets the overall goals and objectives for each projectProvides maximum value for dollars budgeted, and are appropriate and enduring to meet the functional needs of the District, the local community, and the environmentReviews design changes submitted to ensure project remains within budgetMonitors project planning and design status to report findings, recommendations and updatesPerforms other duties as assignedRequired Education and Experience:Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering.
