Job summary

Spear AI is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to shape the next generation of our maritime domain awareness platform. You’ll design data-rich surfaces for Horizon, from sketch to production, and collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams.

You’ll champion accessibility, performance, and scalable design systems, mentoring peers and defining how Design Engineering scales as the team grows in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• Depth and taste over years of experience; typically 7+ years in design engineering on high-bar teams.
• Strong understanding of design workflows and technical constraints.
• Attention to animation, loading states, typography rhythm, accessibility, responsiveness, and performance.
• Experience shaping or maintaining a design system at scale, with component API design and token architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement complex, data-rich product surfaces on Horizon from sketch to production.
• Spot opportunities to refine features and fix issues, including paper cuts.
• Participate in kickoffs, understand audience, and help write specifications.
• Champion performance and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility as core concerns.
• Lead design audits and PR reviews to level up teammates.
• Contribute to how Design Engineering scales as Spear AI grows.
