Job summary

Kyocera International, Inc. in San Diego, CA is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to support production and ensure high-quality output in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

This role emphasizes complex product development, board layout, and successful collaboration across engineering and production teams. Ideal candidates have a BS in engineering design and 5+ years in mechanical design, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Requires BS degree in engineering design.
• Requires 5+ years of experience in mechanical design.
• AutoCAD/Mechanical Desktop/Inventor/Pro Engineer/Solid Works experience required.
• In-depth knowledge of design engineering, geometric tolerances, packaging design, and tool preparation required.

Responsibilities

• Performs complex product development activities including drawing, board layout, and interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.
• Provides existing product line support in design activities and/or modification of hardware in production.
• Conducts engineering studies and may assign work to technical drafting staff.
• Communicates with production and sales engineers concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
• Develops new designs that are cost effective and meet timeline requirements.
• Provides leadership in implementing changes to eliminate packaging-related failures.
• Provides regular status reports on packaging development projects and process improvement activities.
• Evaluates, recommends, and implements process improvements for packaging methods with lean manufacturing principles.
• Generates own specific goals and prioritize workload so those actions are in alignment with department goals.
• Responsible for providing guidance and training to lower-level engineers and designers and checking/approving their work.
