Position SummaryUnder general leadership, the Senior Design Engineer will design, release, and implement new parts and assemblies with supporting documentation to improve existing products in a manner that demonstrates, “Everything is Important.”The design engineering role is responsible for understanding requirements for new components or systems, designing to those requirements, and bringing those parts to production.This is an onsite role in Torrance, CA.We have one role open for interiors/carbon fiber body and one that will cover other areas of the vehicle. We are seeking automotive design experience. Essential Duties
Conceptualizes and creates mechanical designs using design software SolidWorks and/or Catia V5 for new products used in late model air cooled PorschesAbility to understand and design around packaging environment, mounting strategy and load conditions of automotive components and systems, even with little informationAbility to plan and execute part evaluations on vehicle, and component or system validation plansInterfaces with and manages suppliers to execute project deliverablesCollaborates with global Design and Production Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality and Production teamsPlans, executes, and initiates process improvement (such as Lean or Six Sigma)Evaluates existing drawings and 3D models of assemblies and processesDevelops testing processes, and perform testing and validation of new designsCreates working prototypes for first article fit and function testingReviews and approves 3D models and 2D drawings and specifications created by junior engineersComplete documentation to track project development and design processEnsures projects are on time and within budgetIdentifies indicators for improvement and cost reduction opportunitiesCreates product introduction materials; work instructions, exploded view parts manuals, etc.Performs all other duties as assigned
Qualifications:Required Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering emphasisMinimum of 10 years of mechanical design & drafting experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks, Catia, or equivalentExperience in automotive industryExperience in engineering development process and design and release of components and systems
Preferred Education/Experience and/or Certifications
Master’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering with automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering emphasisExperience and capabilities with surface modelingExperience with data management systems
Skills/Abilities and Attributes
Strong knowledge and experience in automotive design process, including creating requirements, design, manufacturability and releasingAbility to solve complex problems with design constraints and deliver optimized solutions for function, cost, timing and manufacturingAbility to create 2D drawings and 3D models of advanced mechanical components and assembliesUnderstanding of customer expectations for luxury, high performance vehiclesStrong critical thinking and analytical skills, especially the ability to synthesize large amounts of data involving multiple variables into action planDemonstrated ability to lead a project through completion and meet deadlinesExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complicated issues to a wider audienceTeam oriented, strong ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment and to multiple deadlinesKnowledge of Pareto Analysis, Root Cause, Corrective Action, or related strongly preferredUnderstanding of design for manufacturability as it applies to DFMEA conceptsProficient working with PowerPoint, Excel, or similar data analysis softwareExperience monitoring, tracking, and continually improving the total cost equationWillingness and ability to learn and use new test equipment such as 3D scanners, 3D printers, data acquisition systemsKnowledge of air cooled and turbo Porsche vehicles a plusAs required, must maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a good driving record and appropriate insurance limits and/or be insurable under the Singer’s company vehicle insurance policy
Compensation The starting salary range for this position is between $111,600 - 139,500.
