Job description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer to lead our design team in the development of plans and specifications for water capital improvement projects. The Design Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of design projects, meeting established goals, and adhering to schedules and budgets. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in water infrastructure design, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Role Functions:

1. Lead a design team to prepare or manage the development of site plans, including grading plans, stormwater capture and conveyance design, and ensuring vehicular access to pumps, wells, treatment systems, and conveyance systems.
2. Prioritize design projects within the area of responsibility, monitor and report on schedules and budgets, and implement corrective actions as needed.
3. Ensure the design team meets schedules and budgets for all assigned water supply and distribution projects.
4. Manage multiple potable water supply, treatment, pumping, storage, and distribution projects, including preparing plans and specifications.
5. Implement a Quality Assurance program for the internal design team.
6. Review submittals and field changes during construction, and perform engineering services related to Capital Improvement Programs, including developing reports, cost estimates, value engineering, and evaluations concerning hydraulics, water supply, storage, treatment, and water quality.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited college required.
• Registration as a Professional Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineer in California.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in water infrastructure design.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
