Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Sandusky, Ohio. This position is responsible for leading the design and execution of custom-engineered equipment projects from concept through manufacturing and installation. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical design expertise, advanced SolidWorks skills, and proven experience leading projects while collaborating with customers, vendors, manufacturing teams, and engineering staff.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom equipment using SolidWorks and other engineering software
• Create detailed engineering drawings for customer proposals and manufacturing
• Generate bills of material (BOMs) and manufacturing routings
• Perform engineering calculations for component sizing and equipment performance
• Develop owner manuals, testing procedures, and supporting technical documentation
• Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation
• Assist with field support, troubleshooting, and product improvement initiatives
• Serve as Lead Engineer on assigned projects, coordinating efforts between customers, vendors, and internal teams
• Manage project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and technical execution
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to Design Engineers and CAD Designers
• Drive engineering excellence and support continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software
• Strong mechanical design and engineering analysis capabilities
• Ability to perform engineering calculations using software and manual methods
• Experience leading engineering projects and cross-functional teams
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to effectively interact with customers, vendors, and manufacturing personnel

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required, preferably Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 10 years of related engineering and design experience
• Experience designing industrial machinery, capital equipment, automation systems, material handling equipment, or other custom-engineered products preferred

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience serving as a technical lead or project lead
• Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes
• Knowledge of BOM creation, product documentation, and design-for-manufacturing principles
• Experience supporting products through design, build, testing, and field implementation
