Job summary

Kids for the Future in Lynchburg, VA, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to create, develop, and optimize mechanical designs for new and existing products.

You will manage multiple projects, prepare drawings, BOMs, and support fabrication from concept to production, using Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Vault.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 5–10 years of mechanical design experience preferred.
  • Experience in conveyor manufacturing is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, and Vault required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering calculations and design analyses to support manufacturing and production.
  • Create detailed technical drawings and engineering documentation for fabrication and production.
  • Design new products and modify existing designs to meet customer specifications and project objectives.
  • Provide engineering support throughout fabrication, welding, assembly, and production phases to ensure design accuracy.
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and release documentation for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges and drive continuous improvement.

Under the direction of ACS corporate leadership and reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for creating, developing, and enhancing mechanical designs for new and existing products. This role requires the ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously, respond to changing priorities, and deliver innovative design solutions that support customer requirements and manufacturing objectives.

Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare engineering calculations and design analyses to support manufacturing and production processes.
  • Create detailed technical drawings and engineering documentation for fabrication and production.
  • Design new products and modify existing designs to meet customer specifications, performance requirements, and project objectives.
  • Provide engineering support throughout the fabrication, welding, assembly, and production phases to ensure design accuracy and functionality.
  • Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and complete engineering release documentation for manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design challenges and support continuous product improvement initiatives.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.
  • Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of experience in mechanical design engineering or a similar engineering role.
  • Previous experience within the conveyor manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk software, including Inventor, AutoCAD, and Vault.
Technical Skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality engineering documentation and designs.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills to identify solutions and support production timelines.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, production planning, inventory management, and quality control practices.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with engineering, production, and manufacturing teams.
  • Understanding of workplace safety standards and the ability to promote compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
