Job description

LiquidPiston, Inc. is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to assist in the development of our rotary IC engines.

Requirements:

1. BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Strong understanding of engines and design for manufacturing.
3. 3+ years of professional experience with engine component design and simulation.
4. Ability to self-direct and independently solve problems.
5. Expertise in SolidWorks.
6. Experience with mechanical, thermal, and fluid simulation tools.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will:

1. Invent and generate ideas to improve the performance of LiquidPiston’s engines.
2. Create solid models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
3. Lead technicians, interns, and junior engineers on design and analysis projects.
4. Lead initial engine architecture and layout processes.
5. Analyze component and system designs using hand calculations, software simulations, and experimental results.
6. Create and release shop-ready drawings.
7. Select and coordinate with machine shops and suppliers from RFQ through incoming inspection.
8. Oversee engine assembly processes and participate in hands-on assembly.
9. Support engine testing.
10. Create and follow standardized procedures related to engine design and analysis.
11. Present ideas and results to management and engineering teams.
12. Maintain a spirited, open-minded personality and a “can-do” attitude.

Helpful Skills:

1. Experience with advanced rotary and piston engine technologies (e.g., Miller cycle, HCCI).
2. Professional experience with camshafts, bearings, gears, high-speed machinery.
3. Good communication and proposal writing skills.
4. Experience working in a machine shop or prototype environment.
5. Training and experience with GT Suite, ANSYS, MATLAB.
