Job summary

Applied Research Laboratories at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a senior Design Assurance Quality Engineering Scientist to oversee the DO-278A certification of mission-critical web applications. You will guide a team from requirements elicitation through system design, implementation, verification, and delivery to the customer.

The role requires leading safety-critical design activities, performing FHA allocations, and ensuring evidence supports DA levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science, applied science, or engineering.
• Three years of experience as a technical team leader with responsibilities for safety-critical systems.
• Understanding of RTCA DO-178C, DO-278A, and DO-331.
• Experience in quality assurance frameworks.
• Experience in addressing Design Assurance gaps.
• Experience in DO-278A compliance audits.
• Strong written and verbal communication across diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety-critical system design, development, decomposition, and tracking per DO-278A.
• Lead FHA allocations to define objectives for system safety.
• Identify evidence supporting DA levels and map to DA objectives.
• Provide Design Assurance analyses and DA reviews support.
• Support gap analysis based on fPRD, PHA, and other safety artifacts.
• Develop DO-278A Compliance Audit and Development Assurance report.
• Other related functions as assigned.
