Job summary

University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Senior Design Assurance Engineering Scientist to oversee DO-278A certification of mission‑critical web applications. You will lead the team in eliciting scope, deriving requirements, translating designs, and verifying implementations to achieve certification.

The role requires extensive experience with safety‑critical systems, DO-178C/DO-278A/DO‑331, and strong communication skills to interact with stakeholders and staff across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science, applied science, or engineering.
• Three years of related experience.
• Understanding of RTCA DO-178C, DO-278A, and DO-331.
• Experience in identifying and addressing Design Assurance (DA) gaps.
• Experience in conducting Compliance Audits for DO-278A.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to explain technical detail to diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with attention to detail.
• US Citizenship required and eligible for access to classified information.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety‑critical system design, development, decomposition, and tracking per DO-278A.
• Lead identification of safety‑critical interfaces and conduct FHA allocations.
• Identify evidence supporting DA levels and map to objectives.
• Provide Design Assurance Engineering Analysis and DA Reviews support.
• Support Gap Analysis based on fPRD, PHA, and other safety artifacts.
• Develop DO-278A Compliance Audit and Development Assurance Compliance Report.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
