Job summary

Jack Henry is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to design, optimize, and maintain high-volume database systems. The role involves building stored procedures, views, and data access layers, while collaborating with developers to ensure secure, performant database interactions.

The position is hybrid, onsite at our Allen, TX office one day per week, and requires strong SQL skills, tuning expertise, and mentoring teammates. Immigration sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in database administration.
• Must be familiar with object-oriented programming.
• Nice-to-have: Experience writing and optimizing complex queries.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with performance tuning.
• Knowledge of payment systems and solutions.
• Strong communication, writing, and diagramming skills.
• Experience with GoLang.

Responsibilities

• Writes and reviews stored procedures, functions, and other programmable objects for high-volume transaction processing systems.
• Participates on scrum teams as the SQL expert, helping to move features through the software development lifecycle.
• Tunes queries for optimal performance by examining execution plans and indexing.
• Participates in design meetings and recommends optimal performing database designs.
• Writes and maintains unit tests.
• Writes and maintains library of query performance tests (baselines).
• Monitors and maintains database CI/CD devops tooling and ensures accuracy of update/rollback scripts for database deployments.
• Writes and reviews application code in the data access layer to ensure performance and security of database calls.
• Performs advanced troubleshooting across all application components, debugs, fixes, deploys, and tests the fixes.
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots complex application problems and leverages tools to identify solutions.
• Resolves challenging problems in collaboration with others.
• Helps team members with questions and troubleshooting related to their SQL Server setups.
• Trains and mentors junior team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
