Job summary

Jack Henry is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to design, code, and optimize databases and database applications. You will model databases, create tables, stored procedures, views, and other database objects, and collaborate with developers to integrate data access across applications.

This remote role requires living within ~70 miles of Jack Henry offices in Allen, TX; Overland Park, KS; Springfield, MO; Birmingham, AL; Charlotte, NC; Louisville, KY; or Monett, MO.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in database administration.
• Experience writing SQL queries.
• Must be familiar with object-oriented programming.

Responsibilities

• Writes and reviews stored procedures, functions, and other programmable objects for high-volume transaction processing systems.
• Participates on scrum teams as the SQL expert, helping to move features through the software development lifecycle.
• Tunes queries for optimal performance by closely examining execution plan and ensuring appropriate indexing.
• Participates in design meetings and recommend optimal performing database designs.
• Writes and maintains unit tests.
• Writes and maintains library of query performance tests (baselines).
• Ensures accurate history in version control systems (git/TFS) and writes documentation, as necessary.
• Monitors and maintains database CI/CD devops tooling and ensures accuracy of update/rollback scripts for database deployments.
• Writes and reviews application code in the data access layer to ensure performance and security of database calls.
• Performs advanced troubleshooting across all application components, debug, fix code, deploy, and test the fixes
• Diagnoses and troubleshoots complex application problems and leverage tools and resources appropriately to identify solutions.
• Resolves challenging problems in collaboration with others.
• Helps team members with questions and troubleshooting related to their SQL Server setups.
• Trains and mentors junior team members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
