Job summary

Zelis is modernizing the healthcare financial experience across payers, providers, and consumers. We are seeking a Senior Database Engineer to own enterprise database platforms across AWS, Azure, and on‑prem environments, focusing on performance, availability, and modernization, including migrating SQL Server workloads to PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL.

The role requires hands‑on DBA expertise, cloud experience, automation with IaC, monitoring, and 24x7 production support.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server experience in production environments with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database problems.
• Experience operating databases on AWS (RDS / Aurora / EC2) and Azure; PostgreSQL and Aurora PostgreSQL preferred.
• Knowledge of database migrations, upgrades, or re-platforming with schema and data migration considerations.
• Automation and IaC for database provisioning and maintenance using modern toolchains; Git/GitHub/CI/CD
• Experience with database monitoring/telemetry and disaster recovery planning; IDERA or AWS observability is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Engineer, administer, maintain, and support enterprise database platforms across AWS, Azure, and on‑prem environments.
• Perform hands-on database performance tuning, including query optimization and index design.
• Troubleshoot production database issues including performance degradation, blocking, and resource contention.
• Migrate and re‑platform databases from Microsoft SQL Server to PostgreSQL and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Plan and execute data migrations, tests, cutover, and post‑migration optimization.
