Job summary

Zelis Healthcare, LLC is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to own the hands-on engineering, administration, and modernization of our enterprise databases across AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments. You will focus on performance, reliability, migrations from SQL Server to PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL, and lifecycle management in a demanding production setting.

The role requires deep DBA expertise, strong troubleshooting, and experience with automation, IaC, and modern monitoring.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server experience in production environments with incident handling.
• Experience tuning queries, indexes, and execution plans.
• AWS RDS/Aurora/EC2 and Azure DB experience; PostgreSQL preferred.
• Experience migrating SQL Server to PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Automate DBA tasks using scripting and IaC; Git/GitHub/CI/CD.
• Experience with monitoring and disaster recovery.
• Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call rotations.

Responsibilities

• Engineer and support enterprise databases across AWS, Azure, and on-premises.
• Perform query tuning, index design, and schema optimization.
• Troubleshoot production database issues related to performance and availability.
• Migrate and re-platform databases to PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Plan and execute migrations including cutover and rollback.
• Maintain HA, backups, DR, and telemetry.
• Develop automation and IaC for provisioning and maintenance.
• Create technical docs and runbooks.
