The ideal candidates are energetic, highly motivated, proficient at transforming concepts into solid architecture and requirements, meticulous, detail-oriented, and able to quickly come up to speed on new technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop database software for low-latency systems at scale
• Application schema design/data modeling and implementation
• Advise software development team on best practices for interfacing product with Postgres and other database technologies
• Production performance troubleshooting of queries and data ingestion
• Work with and mentor other software engineers as it relates to database engineering and development
• Collaborate closely with DevOps and Platform teams to:
• design, implement, and maintain robust database deployment strategies
• ensure high availability and reliability in production environments
• Develop python software that interacts with the database

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related technical field
• Minimum of 8 years of database development, design, and software engineering experience
• Excellent SQL and PL/pgSQL programming skills
• Excellent knowledge of scripting and pipelines as related to database migrations and testing
• Knowledge of RDBMS internals and architecture
• Database administration experience
• Experience with data modeling in collaboration with software teams
• Self-starting and ability to work with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of software configuration management principles and tools such as git

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with AWS and associated technologies
• Experience with at scale Postgres systems (billions of operations per hour)
• Basic Linux/Unix system administration knowledge
• Experience with data warehousing
• Experience writing DRY and modular scripting/automation in Python (or other object-oriented language)
• Experience within the energy industry
• Experience developing, communicating, and enforcing standards for database structure and code
• Experience writing accessible documentation for internal and external customers (database team and non-database team)
• Comfort with balancing multiple priorities while enforcing standards and supporting urgent product team requests
