Job summary

BCforward is hiring a Senior Database Automation Engineer to join our team in Charlotte, NC, on a contract basis for 11 months. The role emphasizes Python and shell scripting on Linux, with AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL expertise in designing, automating, and securing database platforms at scale.

You will automate provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks; implement security controls for encryption and audit logging; develop REST APIs for self-service capabilities; support CI/CD

Qualifications

• 10 years as a SQL Server engineer or database developer with strong PostgreSQL and MSSQL skills.
• Experience with AWS RDS and database administration in cloud environments.
• Knowledge of database security, including native audit, encryption, entitlements, and password vaulting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automation for database provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks using Python and shell scripting.
• Engineer secure and reliable data services across AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL environments.
• Implement database security controls including native audit logging, encryption in transit and at rest, entitlements, and password vaulting.
• Design and integrate REST API solutions to enable self-service and platform capabilities.
• Support CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation for database changes and deployments.
• Monitor and optimize database performance, reliability, and cost across hybrid cloud.
• Collaborate within Agile/Scrum teams using Jira and related tools to deliver incremental value.
• Produce clear technical documentation and present solutions to stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, shell scripting, Linux, REST APIs, AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server and a proven ability to design, automate, and secure database platforms and workflows at scale.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Expertise in Python and shell scripting on Linux for automation and tooling.
• 10 years as a SQL Server engineer or database developer with strong PostgreSQL and MSSQL skills.
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS and database administration in cloud environments.
• Knowledge of database security, including native audit, encryption, entitlements, and password vaulting.
• Proficiency with REST API integration and scripting for platform operations.
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to work independently and in teams.
• Familiarity with Agile practices and Scrum values, including Jira and CI/CD tools.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with AWS or Azure architecture.
• Exposure to Guardium or similar database activity monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of PowerShell and Ansible for automation.
