Job summary

Jobgether SRL, listed on behalf of a partner company, is seeking a Senior Database Administrator based in India to manage PostgreSQL infrastructure in data centers and AWS.

You will design highly available clusters, optimize performance, automate deployment and monitoring, and collaborate with SRE/DevOps to improve reliability and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of production PostgreSQL experience.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Database Administrator based in India.

This role is focused on managing and optimizing mission-critical PostgreSQL infrastructure across data center and AWS environments.

You will design and maintain highly available database clusters supporting demanding trading and analytics platforms.

The position combines database administration, infrastructure automation, performance engineering, observability, and production reliability.

You will develop automated solutions for deployment, configuration, monitoring, backup, recovery, and database operations.

Working closely with SRE, DevOps, and engineering teams, you will help improve scalability, resilience, and CI/CD integration.

The role operates in a 24/7 production environment where reliability, minimal downtime, data integrity, and rapid incident response are essential.

Accountabilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain PostgreSQL clusters in AWS environments using Infrastructure as Code tools.
• Develop automation for database provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and operational processes.
• Perform database maintenance activities including vacuuming, reindexing, and statistics analysis to maintain optimal performance.
• Analyze and optimize slow SQL queries, indexing strategies, and database workloads to improve efficiency and throughput.
• Design and maintain resilient, highly available PostgreSQL architectures that minimize downtime during upgrades, maintenance, and failovers.
• Implement and maintain robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to protect data integrity and system availability.
• Monitor and support 24/7 production database systems, participating in incident response and root-cause analysis when required.
• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, and engineering teams to improve database scalability, performance, reliability, and CI/CD integration.
• Contribute to improved observability, automation, and operational efficiency across database environments.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience managing PostgreSQL databases in production environments.
• Strong expertise in SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, and PostgreSQL performance tuning.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining highly available and fault-tolerant database systems with minimal or zero downtime.
• Experience supporting mission-critical 24/7 production environments, including on-call responsibilities and incident response.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, RDS, EBS, S3, and IAM.
• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL replication, Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR), and high-availability solutions such as Repmgr, Patroni, ProxySQL, or similar technologies.
• Experience automating infrastructure and database operations using Terraform, Ansible, or comparable tools.
• Strong Linux systems administration skills and scripting experience with Bash, Python, Go, or similar languages.
• Familiarity with observability and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Loki, Grafana, or CloudWatch is a plus.
• Exposure to additional database technologies such as ClickHouse or Timescale Postgres is a plus.
• Experience developing internal automation or self-healing tools for query analysis and database management is desirable.
