Job summary

Google is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Search team, focusing on foundational data insights for Search, AI Overviews, and Gemini in Search.   • Perform dataset analyses using statistical and AI methods; share actionable recommendations.
  • Build evaluations and measurement systems to support hillclimbing and iterative improvements with Engineering.
  • Function as an integrated partner to drive system changes and support launches.

Join the core Google Search team as a Senior Data Scientist, supporting foundational data insights for Search, AI Overviews, and Gemini in Search. The role emphasizes web and AI quality, with work spanning Core Web Quality, News and Freshness, and AI Context Engineering (CRAFT), in close partnership with engineers and product managers.

Role Overview

In this position, you will contribute to critical quality areas such as Core Web Quality (Indexing, Retrieval, Ranking), News and Freshness, and AI Context Engineering (CRAFT). You will help design and evaluate approaches that improve how users access information through Search and AI experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Engineers and Product Managers to identify quality and metric headrooms.
  • Perform rigorous dataset analyses, using statistical and AI methods to address complex problems, then share actionable recommendations with stakeholders.
  • Build evaluations and measurement systems to support hillclimbing and iterative improvements, and automate those workflows in collaboration with Engineering and Product.
  • Function as an integrated partner to drive system changes and support launches.
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field, such as Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, Operations Research, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5 years of experience applying analytics to solve product or business problems, including coding (for example Python, R, SQL), querying databases or performing statistical analysis. Alternatively, 3 years with a PhD degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8 years of experience applying analytics to product or business problems, including coding (Python, R, SQL), querying databases, or conducting statistical analysis. Alternatively, 6 years with a PhD degree.
  • Experience working on a consumer-facing product or on quality evaluations.
  • Strong ability to apply quantitative models to real-world business problems, with solid experience in experimental design and analysis, survey design, evaluation methodologies, statistical modeling, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Proven capability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with an emphasis on highlighting key implications and actionable insights.

Salary: USD 174,000 - 252,000 per year
