Job summary

Block, Inc. seeks a Senior Data Scientist for the First Line Risk Data Science team to build and scale control performance monitoring across a portfolio of financial products. You will partner with risk, compliance, product, and engineering to embed measurement into governance and inform decisions.

You will own monitoring metrics, develop reusable analytical modules, apply statistical judgment, and drive end-to-end delivery in a fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant experience in analytical roles
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python with large datasets
• Strong statistical and analytical judgment including time series / monitoring
• Experience translating objectives into measurement frameworks
• Strong product instincts for internal tools and stakeholder needs
• Excellent judgment in ambiguous situations and cross-team collaboration
• Clear written and verbal communication to technical and non-technical audiences
• Experience in fintech, risk, compliance, or product governance
• Experience using AI tools to accelerate analysis and development

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain actionable control performance metrics and KRIs
• Investigate controls using source data and system behavior to measure coverage and outcomes
• Contribute scalable monitoring metrics and modules into the monitoring app
• Create reusable analytical modules and automated workflows
• Apply statistical methods to define populations, baselines, and thresholds
• Build pre-launch risk measurement plans, guardrails, and post-launch monitoring
• Collaborate with internal users to shape a monitoring roadmap and measure value
• Lead ambiguous initiatives from problem definition through delivery
• Communicate findings and limitations to stakeholders and leaders
