Job summary

LMI Consulting, LLC is seeking a mid-to-senior Data Scientist to support the VA. You will translate program questions into datasets, build analysis-ready cohorts, and develop Power BI dashboards and Power Apps experiences using SQL and Python/R.

The role blends data engineering, evaluation, and statistical analysis to deliver decision-ready insights. Qualifications include a 6+ year track record in data analytics, strong SQL, and Python or R expertise, plus experience with reproducible workflows

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, CS, or related field.
• 6+ years of data analytics, program evaluation, BI, or related quantitative work with ownership of deliverables.
• Strong SQL skills with complex relational data models and cohort construction.
• Strong Python or R for reproducible analysis and reporting; Python preferred for future stack.
• Ability to distinguish descriptive, predictive, and causal questions; defend methods and interpret results.
• Experience with reproducible coding practices, version control, testing, and documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain findings to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with Federal data environments and PII/PHI handling; ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.
• Desirable VA domain knowledge and Power Platform/BI experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and delivery of analytics products using SQL, Power Apps/Power BI, and reproducible workflows.
• Partner with program leadership to frame questions, populations, outcomes, and analytical objectives.
• Write readable SQL for complex relational data, build analysis-ready cohorts, validate joins and denominators.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and Power Apps experiences for actionable insights.
• Select and apply methods across descriptive, predictive, and causal questions; include model diagnostics.
• Develop modular Python or R workflows for data manipulation, visualization, and reporting.
• Ensure data quality, traceability, and reproducibility from source to outputs; manage versioning and testing.
• Read and reconcile legacy SAS workflows; support migration to Python-based pipelines.
• Define milestones, track dependencies, and communicate progress with stakeholders; support project delivery.
• Translate analytical results into program meaning, including uncertainties and recommended actions.
