Job summary

LMI is seeking a mid-to-senior Data Scientist to support the VA, bridging data engineering, analytics, and program evaluation. Expect SQL-backed data, Power Platform dashboards, and Python/R analytics within a mission-focused federal environment.

The role spans data wrangling, cohort validation, and decision-ready insights, delivering dashboards and reports to program leadership and stakeholders. Tysons, VA and remote work options available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, CS, information systems, econometrics, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in data analytics, program evaluation, BI, or related quantitative discipline.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with complex relational data models and cohort construction.
• Proficiency in Python or R for reproducible analysis; Python preferred for future stack.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to explain analytical findings to stakeholders.
• Experience with Federal Data Environment, PII/PHI handling, and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and delivery of analytics products combining SQL data, Power Apps/Power BI, and reusable workflows.
• Partner with stakeholders to frame questions, define populations, outcomes, and analysis objectives.
• Write readable, efficient SQL; construct analysis-ready cohorts with clear inclusion/exclusion criteria.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and Power Apps experiences; ensure data refresh and usability.
• Apply descriptive, predictive, and causal methods; justify chosen methods and assess uncertainty.
• Develop modular workflows in Python or R; emphasize reproducibility and documentation.
• Ensure data quality, traceability, and governance across outputs and source data.
• Support migration from legacy SAS to Python with testing and maintainability.
