Job summary

Mariana Minerals, a software-first minerals company, seeks a Senior Data Scientist to bring statistical rigor to recovery, throughput, and cost decisions across our plant data. You will own definitions, build dashboards, and ensure reporting is trusted by operators and executives.

You will collaborate with Data & Analytics Platform and product teams to raise the analytical bar, quantify uncertainty, and communicate insights clearly to drive responsible mineral sourcing and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 3–6+ years in data science, analytics, or quantitative research with decision-driving analyses.
• Deep applied statistics: experimental design, hypothesis testing, regression, uncertainty quantification.
• Strong SQL and Python (pandas, statsmodels, scipy) for data access and reporting.
• Proven track record building dashboards and reports used by operators and executives.
• Ability to work with messy real-world measurement data and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze plant trials and experiments with DOE and sample sizing.
• Define metrics like recovery, grade, throughput, and uptime; ensure consistent definitions.
• Build and own reporting and analytics layer with dashboards and self-serve tools.
• Quantify uncertainty: sampling error, assay variability, instrument drift.
• Apply SPC and capability analysis to plant operations.
• Perform deep-dive analyses on cost variance, supplier comparisons, and correlations.
• Forecast production, cost, and capacity planning using applied statistics.
• Collaborate with Data & Analytics Platform on needs and tooling.
• Raise analytical bar and review analyses; teach statistics to teams.
• Write actionable memos instead of static notebooks.
