Qualifications

• 6+ years in machine learning or scientific computing, including people management.
• Degree or equivalent depth in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or related field.
• Hands-on track record shipping ML models to production for physical, scientific, or industrial systems.
• Strong engineering fundamentals: Python, ML frameworks, experiment tracking, reproducible code.
• Track record of setting technical direction for a team in ambiguous environments.
• Ability to review work and give actionable feedback.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication across audiences.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of ML engineers focusing on chemistry and process problems.
• Define and own the team's technical direction, data strategy, and validation methodologies.
• Partner with the TPM to translate product priorities into scoped engineering work and roadmaps.
• Collaborate with process engineers, chemists, and operators to ensure models address real plant questions.
• Ensure rigor: physics-based validation, extrapolation limits, and uncertainty quantification.
• Oversee production lifecycle: deployment, monitoring, retraining, drift, incident response.
• Drive engineering practices: code/model review, experiment tracking, and documentation.
