Job summary

Gopuff is seeking a Principal Data Scientist, Consumer, to lead personalization and recommendation efforts across search, home feed, cart, and CRM. You will design scalable models, build learn-to-rank systems, and drive agentic AI experiences that help customers plan, discover, and reorder.

You will mentor senior scientists, set technical direction, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Marketing to maximize business impact. Remote opportunity across the U.S.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of data science or ML experience (or 8+ years with a PhD)
• Track record shipping personalization systems that moved consumer metrics at scale
• Deep knowledge of ML methods: gradient boosting, collaborative filtering, matrix factorization, learning-to-rank, embeddings, causal/evaluation methods
• Hands-on experience with agentic AI systems using LLMs, prompts, tool design, retrieval-augmented generation

Responsibilities

• Own consumer personalization end to end across home feed, search, product pages, cart, and CRM
• Build and refine recommender and ranker systems balancing relevance, basket size, margin, and inventory
• Lead agentic AI initiatives for consumers including LLM-powered planning and tool use
• Blend classical ML with LLMs for production systems
• Run rigorous experiments with A/B tests and offline evaluations
• Ship features to production with engineers and product managers
• Mentor senior data scientists and shape team standards
• Shape roadmap with Product and Engineering leaders for high-impact problems
