Job summary

Gopuff is seeking a Principal Data Scientist, Consumer, to lead personalization across home, search, and cart. You will design and ship recommendation and ranking models, mentor data scientists, and partner with Product, Engineering, and Marketing leaders to drive customer experiences.

You will balance traditional ML with agentic AI, run experiments, and guide the team on scalable pipelines, latency budgets, and product impact. Remote-friendly with strong compensation and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in data science or ML, or 8+ years with a PhD.
• Track record of shipping recommender/ personalization systems.
• Deep knowledge of gradient boosting, collaborative filtering, learning-to-rank, embeddings.

Responsibilities

• Own consumer personalization end to end across home, search, pages, cart, and CRM.
• Build recommender and ranker systems balancing relevance, basket size, margin, and inventory.
• Lead agentic AI for customers with LLMs, prompts, tools, and guardrails.
• Blend classical ML and LLMs, decide best tool (GBM, two-tower, or LLM).
• Run rigorous experiments with A/B tests and offline evaluation.
• Ship to production with engineering and product teams, monitor drift and quality.
• Mentor senior staff, set standards for modeling and code quality.
• Shape roadmap with Product and Engineering leadership and explain trade-offs.
