Job summary

IPG is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to support R&D in bio-polymers and sustainable materials, applying advanced data science and ML to experimental, process, and materials data to accelerate innovation. Based in Marysville, MI or remote with travel, you will work with polymer scientists, chemists, and engineers to build predictive models, run DOE studies, and develop scalable data workflows.

The role requires strong Python/R, SQL, statistics, and experience applying ML to scientific data;

Qualifications

• Degree in data science, CS, statistics, materials science or chemical engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
• 1 0+ years in data science or analytics with materials/chemical R&D data preferred.
• Strong Python/R, SQL, statistics, and ML experience on real-world data.

Responsibilities

• Partner with polymer scientists, chemists, and engineers to apply data-driven methods in bio-polymers research.
• Analyze and model experimental, formulation, and process data to reveal structure-property relationships.
• Develop predictive models for material performance, formulation design, and process optimization.
• Design and analyze DOE studies to maximize learning efficiency and reduce development timelines.
• Build reproducible data workflows for R&D data ingestion, cleaning, and analysis.
• Communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to best practices in R&D.
