AbbVie Development Sciences (Dev Sci) is an integrated, cross-functional R&D organization that includes CMC (Process R&D, Drug Product Development and Analytical R&D), Biological Sciences (Preclinical Safety and Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics & Bioanalysis) and Clinical Drug Supply Management functions responsible for the development of small molecule pharmaceuticals and therapeutic biologics from Discovery Candidate Selection through late-stage clinical. The Data & Digital Strategy core team within Development Sciences defines and executes our data and digital strategy in collaboration with Dev Sci subject matter experts and Information Research (IR). The Data & Digital Strategy team partners cross-functionally to build and maintain a data and systems architecture that enables world-class knowledge management, data analytics, and predictive modeling capabilities. We are seeking diverse candidates with a blend of product development, informatics, and data systems experience to help advance our data and digital capabilities.

Purpose

Conceive, design, and implement new tools that solve significant scientific or business problems through the integration, visualization, and analysis of large and complex data. Work closely with science teams to understand scientific needs, generate proposals, and lead efforts to realize those solutions. Investigate, develop, and optimize methods, algorithms, and technologies to derive novel insights or improve productivity and efficiency. Act as a lead data scientist, evaluate scientific and technological advances, and integrate this knowledge into innovative solutions to advance science.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions to address scientific or business challenges through data integration, visualization, and analysis. Resolve key project hurdles using available information and expertise.
• Exhibit proficiency across technologies related to storage, transfer, integration, visualization, and analysis of large data sets. Expertise in machine learning, software development, data warehousing, and statistics.
• Apply deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, especially CMC Development, to accelerate impactful solutions.
• Operate independently with guidance when necessary.
• Stay informed on new technologies and incorporate them into projects and programs.
• Mentor and supervise team members, evaluating their performance and guiding their development.
• Adhere to corporate standards, policies, safety, GxP compliance, and data security protocols.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with typically 12 years of experience, Master’s Degree with 10 years, or PhD with 4 years.
• Strong background in machine learning for scientific applications.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Ability to work globally with multiple teams.

Preferred

• Strong scientific background in biotech/pharma and excellent IT skills.
• Experience with CMC Development data, workflows, toxicology, pathology, and pharmacokinetics is a plus.
