Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Data Scientist to support the VA data modernization effort. This fully remote role is within the United States and focuses on building data products, migrating workloads to the cloud, and advancing AI adoption for business outcomes.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 15+ years (or equivalent) experience, strong Python and SQL skills, and familiarity with Databricks, Azure, AWS, and GCP. Proficiency with ML tooling and LLMs is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific/technical discipline, +15 years experience (or commensurate).
• Proficient in Python and advanced SQL for data analysis.
• 2+ years’ experience with cloud platforms such as Databricks, Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Experience in end-to-end data science workflow from data discovery to production.
• Solid understanding of traditional ML toolboxes.
• Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI workflows.
• Clearance required: ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/public trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Consult with internal clients and build data products/workflows to support operations.
• Migrate and modernize clients’ workloads to the cloud to realize improvements.
• Spearhead AI adoption with clients to drive business outcomes.
• Create reference use cases with tutorials, code, and training for cloud tooling adoption.
• Host office hours to upskill clients.
• Develop, train, and deploy ML to solve complex business problems.
