Job summary

GovCIO is hiring a Data Scientist to support the VA data modernization initiative. The role is fully remote within the United States, focusing on building data products, migrating workloads to the cloud, and advancing AI-driven business outcomes.

You will collaborate with internal clients, develop ML solutions end-to-end, create tutorials and reference code, host office hours, and accelerate adoption of cloud tooling to deliver measurable results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related field with 15+ years of experience or commensurate experience.
• Proficient in Python and advanced SQL for data analysis.
• 2+ years’ experience on leading cloud platforms such as Databricks, Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Experience in the end-to-end data science workflow, from data identification to production, and tooling (NumPy, SciPy, MLFlow).
• Solid understanding of traditional machine learning toolboxes.
• Working knowledge of large language models (LLMs) and agentic AI workflow.
• Clearance required: ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/public trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Consult with internal clients and build data products/workflows to support operations.
• Migrate and modernize workload from legacy to cloud for improvements.
• Spearhead AI adoption with clients to drive business outcomes.
• Create reference use cases with tutorials, code, and training to promote cloud tooling adoption.
• Host office hours to upskill clients.
• Develop, train, and deploy machine learning to solve complex business problems.
