Job summary

Plymouth Rock Assurance is seeking a lead data scientist to apply advanced analytics across Product, Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, Customer Service, and Marketing. You will own data pipelines, feature engineering, model development, deployment, and monitoring, delivering production-grade solutions.

Responsibilities include framing high-value problems, building predictive models, and communicating results to senior leadership. Strong cloud experience (AWS, Snowflake) and a PhD are preferred.

Qualifications

• PhD in a quantitative field.
• Strong foundation in statistics and applied modeling.
• Hands-on experience with Python/R for statistical modeling, SQL for data manipulation.
• Experience with GLMs and tree-based methods (H2O, XGBoost, LightGBM).
• Experience with AI (NLP/LLMs, deep learning) is helpful but not required.
• End-to-end model ownership including production shipping and monitoring is expected for senior candidates.
• Strong communication skills to explain methods and results to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS: S3, EC2, SageMaker) and Snowflake.
• Relational databases and large, multi-source datasets knowledge essential.
• Git-based workflows and strong documentation practices required.
• Insurance industry experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Identify and frame high-value problems across functional areas; translate questions into analytical strategies and measurable outcomes.
• Develop, test, and deploy predictive models to drive growth and improve operations.
• Apply modern ML/AI techniques to accelerate development cycles and deliver new capabilities.
• Build production-ready solutions: data pipelines, feature engineering, monitoring, and documentation.
• Communicate insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders; influence senior decisions.
• Mentor teammates and help shape technical direction as a Senior/Lead.
