Job summary

CarMax is seeking an analytics-focused professional to help shape AI/ML-driven customer experiences and operational efficiency. You will develop and evaluate ML models, work closely with product and engineering teams, and drive data-backed decisions across customer interactions and internal processes.

The role emphasizes experimentation, model interpretability, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to deliver measurable business impact within CarMax’s tech environment in Richmond, VA.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience with ML/AI models in a business setting.
• Experience evaluating and assessing model performance.
• Designing and analyzing statistical tests.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL (and other data analysis languages).
• Experience with NLP or large language models is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop algorithms (ML/AI) in CarMax cloud to impact customer experience.
• Partner with software engineers to deploy and maintain algorithms.
• Assess production model performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Explore new use cases with cross-functional teams to create new experiences.
• Design tests and data collection strategies to improve algorithm performance.
