Job summary

CarMax in Richmond, VA is seeking a Technical Leader to drive predictive Customer Progression models, apply advanced data science across the lifecycle, and analyze large-scale datasets to generate actionable insights. You will collaborate with Product, Operations, Strategy and Data Engineering to identify new data-driven use cases and to build scalable analytics infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field (Master’s or Ph.D.).
• 4+ years in Python, machine learning, data mining and large-scale analysis.
• Experience with data lakes, cloud platforms, and relational databases (SQL).
• Strong analytical mindset with demonstrated impact and strategic thinking.
• Excellent communication, able to explain complex concepts to varied audiences.
• Demonstrated project management and ability to handle competing priorities.
• Experience mentoring or developing team members.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and enhancement of predictive Customer Progression models.
• Apply advanced data science techniques across full model lifecycle: design, training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring.
• Analyze large-scale datasets to generate actionable insights.
• Build understanding of CarMax data ecosystems, including access, processing and monitoring.
• Design and support controlled experiments (A/B testing) to evaluate solutions.
• Partner with Product, Operations, Strategy and Data Engineering to identify new use cases.
• Communicate insights and opportunities to stakeholders at all levels.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing data science team; promote analytics best practices.
