Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in data science, ML, or applied NLP in healthcare or a regulated domain.
• Deep hands-on NLP experience with end-to-end systems and real-world data.
• Proven experience deploying LLM/SLM-based systems and evaluation frameworks.
• Strong foundation in traditional ML, feature engineering, and model evaluation.
• Excellent coding practices, version control, and reproducible workflows.
• Advanced EDA skills to uncover data quality issues and inform modeling.
• Proficiency with Python (pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch or TensorFlow) and SQL for large datasets.
• Experience with cloud-based platforms (GCP preferred) and AI workflows.
• Excellent presentation and communication skills for cross-functional audiences.
• Judgment, deadlines, and ability to guide junior team members.
• Curiosity and ability to learn and apply new tools.

Responsibilities

• Extract signal from unstructured clinical text using NLP and LLM techniques.
• Build, fine-tune, and evaluate domain-specific models with a focus on clinical applicability.
• Leverage LLMs where value is clear, while selecting traditional ML when appropriate.
• Develop predictive analytics and validate models for clinical decision support.
• Perform exploratory data analysis on structured and unstructured data to guide modeling.
• Communicate methodologies, results, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate with ML engineers, data engineers, and clinical informaticists to integrate outputs into products.
• Stay current on NLP advances and maintain HIPAA-compliant data governance.
