Job summary

Elsevier seeks a Senior Data Scientist to design and scale AI solutions that power scientific discovery across the global research ecosystem. You will build LLM-driven apps for literature QA, summarization, and evidence-grounded insights, while advancing retrieval and generation techniques.

You will integrate diverse data sources, mentor peers, and partner with product and engineering to deliver trustworthy AI at scale, with impact on science and health outcomes.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on experience in Data Science, ML, NLP, information retrieval, or related fields.
• Advanced expertise deploying ML/NLP/RAG solutions in production environments.
• Experience with LLMs, prompt engineering, and retrieval systems.
• Strong Python programming with production-grade software practices.
• Experience designing RAG, semantic search, embeddings, and ranking solutions.
• Solid understanding of ML fundamentals, experimentation, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy ML, NLP, retrieval, and generative AI solutions for scientific discovery.
• Build and optimize LLM-powered apps: QA, literature summarization, semantic search, insights.
• Develop retrieval-augmented generation systems connecting models to trusted content.
• Create intelligent search, ranking, recommendation, and enrichment capabilities.
• Design evaluation frameworks for quality, relevance, grounding, and trust.
• Integrate knowledge graphs, ontologies, and metadata into AI workflows.
• Partner with engineering to monitor, optimize, and scale AI systems.
• Lead discovery and influence architecture across initiatives; mentor others.
