Job summary

Turquoise Health is seeking a data performance engineer to diagnose and fix slow queries and UX bottlenecks across the data stack. You will own performance investigations, benchmark key workloads, and partner with product, frontend, and backend engineers to deliver faster, more cost-efficient analytics-driven features.

This role focuses on data-driven performance improvements and scalable architectures. The ideal candidate has 5+ years building data systems, strong SQL and Python, and experience

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and optimizing production data systems.
• Advanced SQL and strong Python.
• Hands-on experience optimizing analytical workloads in column-oriented databases or data warehouses.
• Hypothesis-driven performance work using plans, profiling, benchmarks, and telemetry.
• Ability to reason across databases, APIs, and front-end patterns.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and fix performance issues across the product and data stack to yield measurable production improvements.
• Track latency, throughput, concurrency, and datastore cost with a focus on efficiency (ClickHouse Cloud).
• Build benchmarks for important filter/dataset/workflow combinations.
• Evaluate impact of upstream dataset changes before production and propose mitigations.
• Design and evaluate data architecture changes and collaborate with teams to adapt product behavior.
