Job summary

NFP, an Aon company, seeks a Principal Data Engineer to lead the platform architecture for a medallion data lakehouse and oversee ingestion pipelines from multiple sources, ensuring scalable, analytics-ready models and cost-conscious design.

You will mentor a small team of data engineers, drive design standards, collaborate with business and product teams, and deliver BI-ready data services for Power BI and internal apps. Base salary ranges $135k-$150k with incentives.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data engineering, including 2+ years leading, mentoring, or acting as tech lead for other engineers.
• Experience with lakehouse/medallion architectures. Microsoft Fabric strongly preferred; comparable experience with Azure Synapse, Databricks, or similar platforms will be considered.
• Strong SQL and hands-on proficiency in Python and/or PySpark for large-scale data transformation.
• Dimensional modeling expertise - you can design and maintain star schemas that hold up as reporting needs grow.
• BI analytics fluency, including an understanding of the semantic/serving layer that makes BI performant and trustworthy.
• A track record of taming messy data - ingesting and conforming heterogeneous sources and file formats into clean, reliable models.
• Solid engineering fundamentals - data governance, data quality frameworks, and CI/CD for data pipelines.
• Strong communication skills - able to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the platform architecture and build.
• Own design, build, and ongoing maintenance of our medallion architecture and data pipelines.
• Mentor engineers and help grow their technical skills.
• Partner with platform architects, analytics, clinical, and product teams to align the roadmap with business priorities.
• Ensure data quality, governance, lineage, performance, and cost optimization end to end.
• Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to prioritize initiatives and allocate resources.
