Job summary

The Nuclear Company in Washington state is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Engineering to architect and build a centralized data platform from the ground up and lead the data engineering team. You will design data models, pipelines, and standards, while guiding cloud infrastructure and cost optimization.

You will supervise and mentor engineers, establish data quality practices, and collaborate with business units to translate requirements into technical solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 8+ years in data engineering, incl. 3+ years supervising data engineers.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production data platforms in a cloud environment.
• Experience supervising, mentoring, and developing engineering staff.
• Experience with SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language (Python).
• Knowledge of distributed data processing, data modeling, and batch/streaming systems.
• Love Claude Code/agentic software creation while understanding test development.
• Experience deploying infrastructure through code and applying software development practices including version control, code review, and automated testing to data systems.
• Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Experience with data quality and observability tooling.
• Experience managing cloud infrastructure costs.

Responsibilities

• Make engineering decisions to realize the platform strategy, including data model design and tooling selection.
• Sequence and manage delivery so that teams receive the data they need for success.
• Personally develop production pipelines in early phases and translate them into reusable components and testing standards.
• Recruit, supervise, and develop a data engineering team; set performance expectations and career development discussions.
