Job summary

Horizon3 is seeking a Senior or Staff Data Engineer to design, build, and own the data platform powering our production pipelines, analytics, and BI. You’ll expand a globally deployed data platform across the warehouse, orchestration, and reporting layers, collaborating across regions and teams.

You’ll lead data ingestion, warehouse design, and observability, evaluating lakehouse options like Databricks and driving end-to-end ownership of data infrastructure in a hybrid/remote environment.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering craft with clear, correct, maintainable code.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and data architecture, batch vs streaming, CDC, multi-region trade-offs.
• Fluent SQL and data-modeling skills for warehouse design.
• Experience owning production data infrastructure end to end.
• Strong collaboration and ownership across dependent teams.
• 7+ years of experience in data engineering or backend software engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain business-critical data pipelines, including data ingestion and AWS Glue/Spark jobs feeding the warehouse and Tableau.
• Build and operate core data infrastructure: the data warehouse, orchestration, and BI/reporting platform across regions.
• Help evaluate and shape our warehouse strategy, including lakehouse platforms such as Databricks.
• Define and evolve batch or event-driven contracts between producer and consumer teams; consider batch vs. streaming, CDC, reprocessing, multi-tenant/multi-region trade-offs.
• Design and evolve warehouse schemas and data models.
• Build observability into pipelines and platform components.
• Drive work across producer and consumer teams, communicate clearly, and own outcomes end to end.
