Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Lead Data Engineer to own the data platform end-to-end, including ingestion, orchestration, observability, lineage, and data contracts. You will set patterns for the team and ensure end-to-end traceability for all records and transformations.

You will design robust data models, implement governance controls, and mentor engineers while driving reliability and scalability across markets and products.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in data engineering, with senior-level ownership of production data platforms.
• Deep hands-on experience with Databricks (Spark, notebooks, Delta Lake, orchestration/workflows, cluster management) and PostgreSQL (complex SQL, stored procedures, materialized views, performance tuning).
• Experience building orchestration for complex, dependency-heavy flows, including dependency-aware refresh, error handling, and rollback.
• Demonstrated data observability / data quality work with automated checks, anomaly detection, and alerting.

Responsibilities

• Own ingestion patterns across channels and ensure lineage and contracts are carried with inbound data.
• Design orchestration with dependency-aware refresh, ordered execution, retries, and robust rollback.
• Establish data models (medallion architecture) and data contracts across markets/products.
• Lead data governance, PII masking, retention rules, and compliance controls across regions.
• Mentor engineers and raise the bar on testing and operational readiness.
