Job summary

McDermott International, Ltd in Houston seeks an experienced SQL Server DBA to join the US DBA Team, responsible for administration, support, and optimization of SQL Server, Azure Data Services, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and enterprise data platforms.

You will manage on-prem and Azure SQL environments, tune performance, implement HA/DR, and support data ingestion and analytics initiatives across environments. Collaboration with application teams and vendors is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience supporting production systems.
• Experience with SSRS, SSIS, Azure SQL, and Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience administering Power BI Service and enterprise reporting platforms.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning, HA/DR, Always On, clustering, replication, backup, and recovery.
• Experience with schema design, schema migration, data conversion, and database performance optimization.
• Strong knowledge of AI capabilities, tools, and usage trends.
• Proficiency in T-SQL and PowerShell or Python scripting.
• Experience with data integration, data warehousing, and analytics platforms.
• Familiarity with third‑party RDBMS and NoSQL technologies.
• Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to support U.S. Central Time business hours and work effectively both independently and within a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform database administration including installation, configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, SOX compliance, audits, backups, recovery, patching, and upgrades for on-premises and Azure SQL environments.
• Manage Development, Test, QA, and Production databases and implement enhancements to meet business needs.
• Monitor database health, availability, capacity, reliability, and performance.
• Configure and support Always On, clustering, replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Execute database changes through established change management processes.
• Support database schema design, migration, data conversion, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with application teams, vendors, and business users to resolve database-related issues.
• Administer and support Microsoft Fabric capacities, workspaces, lakehouses, warehouses, pipelines, and security.
• Design, develop, and support data ingestion and ETL/ELT processes using Fabric.
• Support Fabric deployments and promotions across environments.
• Administer gateways, datasets, workspaces, refresh schedules, and security.
• Support enterprise reporting, dashboards, analytics solutions, and data governance.
• Support AI initiatives and use modern AI tools for innovation and productivity.
• Participate in data modernization, cloud migration, and analytics projects.
• Provide after-hours support and maintenance as required.
