Job summary

Sardine is seeking a Senior Data/ML Engineer to own the data and ML foundation powering compliance decisions. You will design end-to-end pipelines, feature platforms, and production ML workflows at scale, collaborating with data scientists, backend engineers, and fraud analysts.

You will ship robust data systems, implement governance, and improve model accuracy while operating in a remote-first, globally distributed team across the US and Canada.

Qualifications

• 8+ years building production data and ML systems with ownership of both pipeline and model sides.
• Fluent in Python and SQL with experience in distributed processing (Spark/Beam/Flink).
• Hands-on with cloud data stacks (GCP preferred) and Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD.
• Practical ML engineering depth: feature stores, model training/serving, drift detection, explainability.
• Domain experience in fraud, risk, payments, or identity/KYC is a strong plus.
• Comfort with regulated data governance: PII handling, data residency, auditability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; bias toward action in ambiguity.

Responsibilities

• Own data ingestion pipelines for devices, events, KYC signals, and enrichments (streaming and batch).
• Develop and evolve a feature platform used by rules engines and models with sub-second serving budgets.
• Ensure feature correctness with tests, drift monitoring, and train/serve parity checks.
• Productionize fraud/identity ML models including training pipelines and automated retraining loops.
• Design and harden data sources, governance, and cross-client data integrations for reliability.
• Lead architecture discussions, write design docs, mentor engineers and data scientists.
