Job summary

Elicit is seeking a seasoned software engineer to own and evolve our scholarly search and data platform from Oakland, CA, with remote options. You will join a small team, work on distributed data pipelines, and integrate new sources across frontend, backend, and data services using Python, TypeScript, and React.

You’ll design robust data systems, ensure provenance and observability, and partner with product, sales, and partners to deliver secure, scalable features for enterprise customers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production systems you owned.
• Strong Python across daily work; experience with TypeScript and React is a plus.
• Experience designing, debugging, and tuning distributed data pipelines (Spark helpful).
• Solid SQL skills and awareness of data layout effects on performance and cost.
• Experience integrating external data sources (APIs, bulk exports, schema changes).
• Data quality, provenance, observability, and failure handling.

Responsibilities

• Own Elicit's scholarly search and data platform and its evolving sources.
• Translate customer needs into technical plans for data and product areas.
• Incorporate new kinds of evidence into features while preserving structure and provenance.
• Build secure, rights-aware integrations for enterprise customers and partners.
• Ship features through frontend, backend, and data layers with clean interfaces.
• Operate and monitor what you build, with safe rollouts and rollback plans.
• Collaborate across teams and keep the data platform extensible for engineers.
• Hands-on use of coding agents and review their outputs with the rigor of code.
