Job summary

General Motors is seeking a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to build the next generation of telematics data products that power analytics, AI, and decision-making across the enterprise.

You’ll design trusted datasets, shared metrics, and curated data products enabling teams to unlock value from connected vehicle data; expect a hybrid work arrangement with Warren Global Technical Center or Austin Technical Center.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of relevant data/ software engineering experience.
• Experience supporting AI/ML through feature engineering, model-ready data, or deployment.
• Experience with GenAI, retrieval-augmented generation, or self-service data tools.
• Experience with Azure/AWS cloud data services (Azure Data Lake, EC2/EMR) and workflows.
• Proficiency in Python or Scala, advanced SQL, and Unix/Linux.
• Hands-on with Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, and distributed data processing.
• Experience with NoSQL data stores and data formats (JSON, Parquet, Avro, XML).
• Knowledge of data governance, privacy, security, and responsible AI.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and productionize secure, scalable data pipelines in Azure Databricks.
• Transform data from multiple sources into trusted analytics datasets.
• Develop ETL/ELT workflows using Spark, Delta Lake, medallion architecture.
• Enable self-service analytics and GenAI via governed data products and APIs.
• Support AI/ML workflows with feature-ready datasets and repeatable delivery.
• Implement data quality, lineage, monitoring, and privacy controls.
• Improve engineering processes, platform performance, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, product teams, and stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot production issues and maintain data platform reliability.
• Contribute to standards, documentation, and data product thinking.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices.
