Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data-driven solutions. You will work with software engineers and analytics teams to ingest, store, process, and analyze large data sets, ensuring quality and performance while aligning with enterprise architecture.

The role emphasizes collaboration, cloud-native platforms, and applying engineering best practices to enable data-driven decision making across Humana’s healthcare services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a science, engineering, or computing discipline or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years designing and building production-grade batch data pipelines for ingestion and transformation.
• 8+ years in data engineering or related roles.
• Strong proficiency in SQL, Databricks, Python, Apache Spark, Git, Azure Services (Synapse, ADLS Gen2).
• Relational DB concepts, data modeling, warehousing.
• Experience with Big Data querying tools.
• Experience optimizing large-scale pipelines and ETL.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and data workflows (Azure Databricks).
• Develop and maintain SAS programs and SSIS packages for data processing.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries for data transformation.
• Design and build ETL/ELT pipelines from multiple sources.
• Select and support Big Data tools and frameworks for processing/integration.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data processing issues with root-cause analysis.
• Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, reliability, and cost.
• Partner with product management and SRE to define requirements and translate to engineering work.
• Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to align data strategy and outcomes.
